We’re looking for content related to purposeful travel

At the beginning of 2021, Airbnb, a global vacation and travel company, shared an interesting report from a survey of American consumers highlighting their feelings about travel, accommodations, and where they might go first, after many of the travel restrictions were lifted. The report used the phrase “meaningful travel” to describe the trend they were witnessing with survey participants, and summarized this trend with the following quote: “…as the pandemic’s chokehold on travel starts to ease, it seems likely that mass tourism’s hold will loosen, too, as travel becomes about who you are with and what you will do together, not where you go or how you are moved around.”

The travel industry has used similar terms in the past to describe consumer motivations. Mission-driven, experiential, cultural immersion, transformational and purposeful have all been thrown around. These terms describe a certain style of travel and after a year and a half of isolation and lockdowns, consumers are looking to get more out of their next travel experience. Whether it’s a meaningful connection with someone you haven’t seen in a long time, spending time with close family, or a trip filled with self-reflection, I’m sure all of you are thinking about your next trip. It’s with this in mind that we’d like our contributors to try and capture or design the look and feel of purposeful travel. We’ve outlined a number of trends for vectors, photos, and video related to this trend, below.

After spending over a year unable to leave the house, the majority of us can’t wait to get back on the road and spend time somewhere other than our living rooms. The first post-pandemic trip will have a special meaning, either because we will choose to visit places that bring us happiness or because we will finally be able to meet family members and loved ones. We are looking for submissions displaying all kinds of purposeful travels; yoga retreat camps, RV road trips with the family, hiking and backpacking trips, volunteer travels or even a bucket list trip where you’ll be swimming with sharks in their natural habitat. Make sure to surface the joy and connection that this travel experience will bring to people.

We’re all ready to get out of the house this summer! Some are excited to leave cities and be surrounded by nature and others are getting on planes for the first time in a long time, to connect with family and close friends. We all want to go somewhere. However, whether it’s due to budgets, limited free time, global travel restrictions, or wanting to travel in a more environmentally conscious way than before, we are also being thoughtful about how we use our resources for traveling. How can you create content that conveys the intentionality of our trips this year? Some people are turning more to train travel to help the climate. Others are seeking trips to refresh their bodies and minds or crossing off big bucket-list adventures after being stuck inside for a year. As always, we want to see all kinds of people in these visual representations of meaningful travel, and we’re excited to see what you create!

After such a long period of isolation and lockdown, travel has taken on a new sense of gravity. In many ways, the emphasis is now on who you’re traveling with or who you will see rather than the places you’ll go and the means by which you’ll get there. The act of travel has been imbued with a deeper sense of meaning, and that should be represented in the footage you submit. This can include special retreats like writing or yoga, road trips to camp or stay at family cabins, or reuniting with loved ones after months or years apart. We would like you to submit footage that emphasizes the emotional, meaningful, holistic side of travel rather than the consumerism associated with vacation.
